LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Undefeated WBA featherweight (126 pounds) champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (pictured above, at right) unanimously outpointed Orlando Salido to take the IBF crown Saturday night in a title unification bout at the Palms Casino.
Gamboa (19-0, 15 knockouts) had winning scores of 116-109, 114-109 and 115-109 from the judges.
"Every time I hit him, Salido would come back and fight," said Gamboa. "This is the new Gamboa you're going to see -- more controlling, less careless."
Gamboa appears to be on course to face southpaw WBO counterpart Juan Manuel Lopez (29-0, 26 knockouts) of Puerto Rico, whose long range goals are to face Gamboa.
But Lopez (pictured above, at left), himself, must first get beyond a Nov. 6 bout with 35-year-old ex-world champion Rafael Marquez (39-5, 35 KOs) to be contested at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
