Filed under: Redskins, Texans, AFC South, NFC EastThe Texans will visit the Redskins in a game featuring a matchup of surprise unbeaten teams, with each team having beaten preseason Super Bowl favorites in the regular-season opener.
It's also a matchup of two coaches who know one another very, very well.
The Texans, a team that never has made the post-season in eight previous NFL seasons, entered the season with momentum and optimism, and backed that up with a surprisingly convincing 34-24 victory over the defending AFC Champion Indianapolis Colts at Reliant Stadium in Houston last week. The Texans rushed for 257 yards and pressured Colts quarterback Peyton Manning throughout, pulling away from a three-point halftime deficit and never being seriously threatened in the second half.
The Redskins' victory was no less surprising, but substantially less easy. In the first game under coach Mike Shanahan and in 2010 free-agent signee Donovan McNabb's first game as Redskins quarterback, Washington scored a somewhat quirky 13-7 victory over defending NFC East Champion Dallas.
The Redskins' lone touchdown came on a 32-yard fumble return by cornerback DeAngelo Hall on the first half's final play, then a potential winning touchdown pass by Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was negated by a game-ending holding penalty on the game's final play.
