Alexander was taken eighth overall by Milwaukee in the 2008 draft, when he was billed as the athletic cream of that particular crop. That being the case, the former West Virginia star still struggled mightily in two seasons before he was traded to Chicago in February in the deal that netted the Bucks John Salmons.
Alexander appeared in 59 games as a rookie, averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 12.1 minutes a game. Before the start of his second season, the Bucks declined the third-year option on his deal for 2010-11. The decision proved prescient, as Alexander was limited to just eight games in his second season, all coming in March after he was dealt, during which he scored a combined four points in 29 minutes spread over eight games.
In a six-game stint with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA D-League in late January and February, Alexander averaged 10.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 26.8 minutes.
The Hornets also added former D-League All-Star and NBA vagabond forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu to their camp roster earlier in the day.
